The history of BolshieKoty (ÁîëüøèåÊîòû)

Circum-Baikal railway
Information about Circum-Baikal railway
Circumbaikal railway is part of the great TRANS-Siberian railway, the
construction of began in 1891 simultaneously from two opposite sides, from
Vladivostok and from Chelyabinsk. The first Chairman of the Committee for the
construction of the Siberian railway was Emperor Alexander III personally signed
the Decree about the beginning of construction works. In honor of this event
later in Irkutsk was erected the monument to the Pioneers of Siberia, the
pedestal of which were decorated with the figure of the Emperor is wearing the
uniform of the ataman of the Cossack troops.

shore to another by horse traction. Ferry lasted until the delivery of the

construction of ferry crossings continued research on the Circum-Baikal line,

which the road should be built from Cape Baranchuk, along the South-Western
shore of the lake to the village of Kultuk and further to Mysovaya station.
Construction work in this area began in the spring of 1902. They were
complicated by the lack of the coastal strip, so the path had to be laid on
carved in the rock shelves and hollows, retaining walls or under high cliffs on
the shore, numerous tunnels, viaducts and bridges across the Bay and fall. Were
built in total 39 tunnels, 15 galleries, 29 medium-sized metal and 411 small
bridges. The longest tunnel is located at the station Polovina its length 778
